Welcome to Comma Hangover

Hello guys! You may know me as AdelleSouth on Ravelry, @madamedefarge on Instagram, from my GoodReads account, my previous blog “Tea and Literature,” or maybe you don’t know me at all and have stumbled across this blog because you thought the name sounded funny or whimsical.

Whatever the reason you are here, you’re here and I am happy to have you.

You might be asking yourself a few questions.

1) Who are you?

That’s a good question. My name is Lauren and I am a 25-year-old creative who has a brain that churns out several thoughts a minute and won’t let her sleep at night.

I am a dog mom, epicurean, appreciator of all things artsy. In my spare time I also attempt to write short stories and novels. Maybe if I am lucky you guys can hold me to actually applying to graduate school this year. (Let’s finally cross that off the to-do list!)

Sissy the Dog
This is Sissy! She’s my pug/dachshund mix. She’s an endless source of entertainment.

2) Why did you start this blog?

I was bored. I’d already read all the magazines?

No, the serious answer. I needed to get back to writing for myself. On any given day my mind wanders between fashion, crafting, random parallels I draw between my favorite TV shows, movies, books or music.

Regardless, I needed a place beyond four walls and deaf ears to talk about these things. Maybe we’ll find that we have something in common! Wouldn’t that be nice?

3) What will you do here?

Many things. Post reviews of books and movies. Any one else doing Book Riot’s Read Harder 2016 challenge? Chronicle different art projects. Show off things that came in subscription boxes. Comment on some particularly baffling news stories. Share photos and videos and maybe even let you guys in  on a couple of my super secret plans. But as River Song would say…SPOILERS!

spoilers

Mostly I just want to be able to write again and get back into the swing of it.

4) Where did the name come from?

In high school and college no one could teach me how to comma. I over-comma-ed every piece of writing and grammar related quizzes and tests. In college during a meeting with my professor he noticed the same thing and when I explained the one thing I could never do correctly was commas he dubbed it a “comma hangover.”

When it came up in another conversation someone said it would be a great name for a future memoir. So I thought I would put it to good use.

So join me and maybe we can have a fun adventure together.
