In a Nutshell

For my Ideation and Prototyping class we were tasked with telling a story about ourselves through objects in the form of a time capsule. I quickly realized I wanted to include more digital/intangible objects and ultimately settled on a Rider-Waite Tarot Deck structure for my assignment.

Tarot decks have a 600-year history and are essentially storytelling through archetypes. I went through this project with a few keywords for each card and then assigned a mix of my photos, screenshots, and pop culture references to them.

I envision to be multi-modal with the deck, a guidebook, and a box.

The Creative Journey

I knew that the items I was creating would have to work together so my process would have to work as follows:

Create a 78 card tarot deck using Adobe Illustrator. The cards will include photography and a 1-2 sentence caption

Research bookbinding and use Adobe InDesign to create a guidebook.

Use Adobe Illustrator and the epilog mini laser cutter to create a final vessel that would hold both the guidebook and the card deck.

The cards are an active project as of Summer 2021, and will continue to be iterated on for the next year. You can read more about the process in the sections below.
