WWW Wednesdays 8-16-2017

WWW Wednesdays is a weekly meme that was previously hosted by Should Be Reading and is now hosted by Taking on a World of Words.

To play along you just had to answer the following three questions:

  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

I think I am back in the saddle again after a touch of a reading slump, here are my updates for this week!

Recently Finished

I finished two books the first! The first is The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill, which I needed to finish because I have the book club meeting tomorrow evening. It was a great read, I am hoping to write up my review shortly and get it posted next week.

I also finished an ARC of Swan Huntley’s The Goddesses, which I have mixed feelings about. I feel like it had some great relationships that I wanted to go further but they weren’t fleshed out enough, plus it subscribes to one of my biggest bookish pet peeves, which is where the book suddenly changes direction in the last act. The full review is coming on Saturday.

Currently Reading

I started The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin on Sunday night and I am already about halfway through it. This is a book that is set to release really early next year, and I am already so excited for it. It’s about four siblings who go to a fortune teller who gives them each their date of death; and then follows the siblings throughout five decades to see what each of them do with that information.

I am hitting the same problem with A Madness So Discreet as I did with The Hypnotist’s Love Story. I only really listen to audiobooks when I am driving and I haven’t driven anywhere more than five minutes away in about a week and a half, so I am still at a fifth of the way through this book. However, I do have a couple 20 and 30 minute drives coming up, so hopefully, I can make progress by this weekend.

And yes, I am still reading the short story collection Almost Famous Women. I don’t know why I just don’t reach for short stories in between novels, and I don’t want to DNF it because every story is self-contained so there could be some great reads later in the book.

What Will I Read Next

I have two more must-read books in August. The first is a round robin book called The Gravity of Us by Brittainy C. Cherry. I want to get this in the mail next week so I am thinking this will be what I start with after I finish The Immortalists. It’s not super long so I think that I should be able to finish this by the weekend.

I have another book club meeting in the last week of August. For that meeting we’re reading The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon. Since this is a young adult book I am hoping that I can finish this pretty quickly as well.

After that, I am not sure. The thing is I have the Back to Hogwarts Cramathon on Friday and then Bout of Books 20 starts on Monday. So I did make tentative TBRs for each. We shall see what I pick up!

That’s my plan for this week! What are you reading this week? Are you enjoying your current read?
