I had only vaguely heard about the Booktube-A-Thon when Celeste @ Inked Books posted her TBR list and it looked amazing! She asked if I was going to participate and I said I wasn’t sure, but with some gentle prodding, I am here posting my TBR for this week. So, thank you Celeste for inspiring this insanity, and encouraging me to participate.
The Booktuba-A-Thon starts Monday July 24th at midnight and continues until Sunday July 30th! For those seven days, a group of readers try to read as much as possible!
There are challenges on Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube, and it’s generally an event for the entire book community to read. You can find out more about it via any of these channels or you can watch this intro video! Hurry, it starts at midnight tonight! (Yes, queen of last minute TBRs!)
So, here’s my list of books for the challenges, I doubt I will get to all of them in the next seven days, but I am going to try!
PROMPT #1: READ A BOOK WITH A PERSON ON THE COVER
For this challenge I am going to use The Vegetarian by Han Kang. I’ve been wanting to read it for a while now. Its short, and has a silhouetted person on the cover!
PROMPT #2: READ A HYPED BOOK
The only thing I can say to my pick for this prompt is, “about time!” I have been wanting to read Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng for over a year. I wrote about my failed attempt to read it on vacation for last week for Book Traveling Thursdays.
I don’t think I found a single person that has said that didn’t like this book! So its time to get on the Celeste Ng train!
PROMPT #3: FINISH A BOOK IN ONE DAY
If I have any hope of doing this, it’s going to have to be a novella. Right now I have Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf on my shelf! It’s under 200-pages and looks like a sheet of A4, so I think I can pull this off.
PROMPT #4: READ ABOUT A CHARACTER WHO IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM YOU
For this I am going to go with The Danish Girl by David Ebershoff. I have been curious about this book since I first purchased it, and this will finally give me the chance to make time to read it.
PROMPT #5: READ A WHOLE BOOK OUTDOORS
I tend to be a very monogamous reader when I get into a novel, but I also have a pug/dachshund who likes to chill outside in the middle of the day when it’s humid. So for this to work, I am going to need a book that I can pick up and put down after reading about fifty-pages.
For this I am going to read Almost Famous Women by Megan Mayhew Bergman. It’s a collection of short stories so I think that will lend itself nicely to being picked up and put down.
PROMPT #6: READ A BOOK YOU BOUGHT BECAUSE OF THE COVER
I’ve been resisting starting this book because I have so many series that I just haven’t finished or caught up with, but I am going to say Annihilation by Jeff VanDerMeer. I didn’t buy this book just because of the cover, but it was definitely pretty and drew me in!
PROMPT #7: READ SEVEN BOOKS
I have a lot of heavy reading on this list (sci-fi, a translation, a historical novel about the first person to undergo gender reassignment surgery, etc.) so I think I will break it up with All Things New by Lauren Miller for my seventh book. It’s young adult and should be a breezier read, even if it sounds a little angsty.
There you have it! That’s my TBR for the 2017 Booktube-A-Thon! I don’t know if I will stick to this list, and I doubt I will actually read all seven books but if I can read two or three of these, that will make me happy. (Plus I figure I will probably go for a long walk or two this week and that will give me a chance to get some listening in, so an audiobook might usurp this list.)
Have any of you guys read these books? Heard anything about them? Participating in the Booktube-a-Thon yourself? Leave a note in the comments below with a link to your TBR.
