Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard - Outfit Inspired by Evangeline Samos

It’s time for another edition of Book Style! We’re revisiting Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard once again. This time creating a look inspired by Evangeline Samos, the winner of the Queenstrial.

To start, I wanted Evangeline to have a really metallic look. When we first meet her in the Queenstrial, it’s clear that she’s powerful and somewhat intimidating. As the book progresses we hear that she wears a lot of outfits made of metal, but since that’s not an option in everyday society, I went with looks that were more metallic or used a lot of hardware.

Since the Samos house colors are black and metal, I wanted to give her at least piece of clothing that was at least entirely metallic, and that came in the form of the RTA Lilian Metallic Silk Top. It’s loose fitting, has a great drape, and is luxurious enough that Evangeline could wear this to a luncheon. Since she always seems battle ready I wanted to give her a top with some structure and a bit of faux utility, so I chose an InDot Black Lapel Leather Look Biker Jacket that provides structure.  To finish out off her outfit, I paired the top and jacket with a pair of Rick Owens Bias Palazzo Pants. For her shoes, I chose the Alexander McQueen Eyelet Leather Pumps, because of their metal detailing.

Since Evangeline’s ability allows her to manipulate metal, I wanted some large, almost weapon-like jewelry to compliment the dark jacket and pants. The low neckline of the tank will go great with a Saks Fifth Avenue Beads and Chainlink Tassel Statement Necklace. The lines in this piece remind me of a bunch of tiny little teeth on a knife.

To compliment the statement necklace I chose a David Yurman Starburst Chain Bracelet with Pearls and a Michela Criss-Cross Rhinestone Ring. To finish off her jewelry I picked a pair of Miadora Sterling Silver Diamond Dangle Earrings.

So that Evangeline looks polished and ready to take on anything, she needs the perfect makeup routine. I started her off with Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless Oxygen Now SPF 25 Liquid Foundation and followed with Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer.

To enhance her features she’d use NARS Cosmetics Sun Was Diffusing Bronzer in Casino and Milk Makeup’s Holographic Stick to create shimmer highlights along her cheekbones. When it comes time to add color to her face, I selected NARS Orgasm Activation Blush to give her a bit of a glow against her silver skin.

For her eyes, I selected the Tarte Sex Kitten Eyeshadow Palette. The variety of shades made that Evangeline can go from a day to night look effortlessly. I wanted to define her eyes with some eyeliner so I selected two shades of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. The lighter one is called Cuff, which has a metallic silver shimmer with micro sparkles, and the darker one is called Perversion which is a matte black.

I wanted to give this Evangeline-inspired work a neutral, but still metal-inspired lip. So I added Urban Decay VICE Lipstick in Gubby, with a matching lip liner to define the shape of her lips.

As a final touch I added Essie Nail Polish in Penny Talk, for it’s metallic finish and it’s neutral color.

The Book That Inspired The Look

Red_QueenThis is a world divided by blood – red or silver.

The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.

That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.

Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.

But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is now available for sale. You can purchase a paperback copy at The Book Depository, Barnes & Noble, or your local independent bookseller.
