I am really drawn into the characters from Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard, and one of the big scenes that got me for the main character was when she’s first introduced as Mareena Titanos.
Mare is a Red that is pretending to be a Silver from a High House, and since she’s living in the palace and her schedule is a mix of social events, protocol, and lessons, I focused on finding a mix of fashionable and comfortable.
I started with an aubergine Les Copains Blazer, and paired it with an off-write Elie Tahari Judith Cream Stretch Silk Blouse. For a sleek, fashionable bottom I chose 7 For All Mankind The Skinny Jeans In Phoenix Black. To finish off the outfit, I selected Ellery Esmond Ankle Boots with Disc Studs.
The one part of her “Red” life is the earrings she keeps to remember her brothers. So I selected three studs. The three I selected are Be-Jewelled Amber Round Stud Earrings, Louise Et Cie Gold-Tone Accented Stud Earrings, and Kate Spade New York Faceted Square Stud Earrings.
To add a few more accessories to make sure that Mare is ready for her social interactions with the other ladies. I chose a 1928 Jewelry Gold-tone Purple Enameled Bracelet for her wrist, and a Lana 14k Electric Wavelength Diamond Necklace to represent her newfound ability.
Mare notes the makeup that the maids put on her to cover up the “red” tint to her skin. So, to start off I picked a full-coverage foundation from IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+. Get it a shade or two lighter than your natural skin tone and you can build a more metallic base with highlighters. To neutralize any redness you can use a product like Urban Decay Color Correcting Fluid in green.
To finish your base, use a neutral eye palette like Urban Decay Naked2 Palette, and the Milk Makeup Holographic Stick to add some multidimensional highlights. Define your eyes with an Anastasia Beverly Hills Metallic Eyeliner in Silver, and add a touch of neutral color to your lips with Urban Decay VICE Lipstick in Barfly.
Finish off your face with Givenchy Beauty Prisme Visage Perfecting Face Powder to provide a little additional color correction. For a nail color, use OPI’s Care To Danse Nail Varnish to cover up the pinkish tint to your nails, and you will blend in perfectly.

The Book That Inspired the Look
This is a world divided by blood – red or silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of god-like superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a seventeen-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
That is, until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.
Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Despite knowing that one misstep would mean her death, Mare works silently to help the Red Guard, a militant resistance group, and bring down the Silver regime.
But this is a world of betrayal and lies, and Mare has entered a dangerous dance – Reds against Silvers, prince against prince, and Mare against her own heart.
