My Intimidating TBR Pile

Intimindating TBRI’ve mentioned my TBR pile more than once. I have mentioned its size. The stacks that are all around my room! It’s a problem! So here’s a look at some of the things on my TBR pile. Take a look!

1) What book have you been unable to finish?

How to Be a Heroine by Samantha Ellis is still on my currently reading list on Goodreads. It’s not a bad book, I am really enjoying it, but I got sidetracked with other books and since these are essays I figured I would be able to pick the thread back up when I was ready to get back to it.

2) What book have you yet to read because you haven’t had the time?
So many! A few that come to mind are Cinder by Marisa Meyer, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender, and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandal.
Amongst many others! There are a lot of books just waiting to be read in my piles right now. I am slowly working my way through it.

3) What book have you yet to read because it is a sequel?

I don’t read many series, but the one I have to say I haven’t read yet that I am most looking forward to is The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. This is the second book in her Maddadam Trilogy. (The first book is Oryx and Crake.)

However, I think HBO is developing a series based on this trilogy in the near future, so if that goes through that would be impetus for me to finish the books.

4) What book have you yet to read because it is brand new?

I knew absolutely nothing about Good as Gone by Amy Gentry until I saw it in Barnes & Noble a couple weeks ago. So I’ve only had it a short amount of time and it’s a brand new release. Hence its place on this list.

5) What book have you yet to read because you read a book by the same author and didn’t enjoy it?

If you follow my blog, you know that a few weeks ago I read The Program by Suzanne Young. It sounded like a really interesting dystopia that would make me think, but I walked away feeling really lukewarm about the characters and the world the story is set in.

That’s why I haven’t read The Treatment, the second book in the series. I really wanted to like this series, and I am kind of curious about how it ends. Maybe one day I will pick this up but in the meantime it doesn’t look likely.

6) What book have you yet to read because you’re not in the mood for it?

I was gifted a copy of Soulless by Gail Carriger and I am really excited to read it but I haven’t been in the mood for any kind of vampire fiction. I will get to it eventually. It’s been on my list forever.

7) What book have you yet to read because it is humungous?

Look at Me by Jennifer Egan is a 500-page book that I first encountered when I was in high school. I can remember reading the description on the back of the book and thinking it sounded amazing. Then I forgot about it until my mother picked it up on a trip to San Francisco last year.

It is a really solid book so that’s why I haven’t read it, but I am determined to read this.

8) What book have you yet to read because it was a cover buy that turned out to have bad reviews?

I am not sure if Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews was a cover buy, a content buy, or a buzz buy, but I have it on good authority that I will probably hate it. So I haven’t actually read it yet, but I am determined to anyway.

9) What is the most intimidating book on your TBR Pile?

Literally, the thickest book on my shelf! Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy intimidates the pants off of me! I recently purchased the newly released audiobook, narrated by Maggie Gyllenhaal with the hope that maybe if I turn this into a project book it will look less intimidating.

That’s it for this tag! I am going to cheat a little bit today and tag everyone who has an intimidating TBR pile! I want to see what’s on your list so that we can grow our TBR piles together!

  1. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake sounds like something I would love. Maybe I’ll have to make a lemon cake of my own for the occasion? (cake-inception!)

  2. I’m on the same boat as you for Cinder. I really, REALLY want to read it, but haven’t been able to just because of time! Anna Karenina is also on my TBR list for so long, how long is the audiobook version of it?

    1. I know the feeling and I have so much to read! There is a lot that I am trying to hold off buying until I finish some of the books on my list. Like I said, this is a small portion! Like a tiny portion. There are piles and piles on my desk! I need a bigger office!

  3. I also haven’t read Station Eleven because I just don’t have time, or I just forget about it when it’s time to chose the next read. And it’s just sitting on my shelf waiting for me to pick it up.

    1. It’s on mine too! So is The Danish Girl, Fangirl, The Ship of Brides, The Roots of the Olive Tree, The Light Between the Oceans, All the Light We Cannot See, and so many more! *headdesk* You should see the books I just put in a pile, like “CHOOSE ONE OF THESE AND GET THEM OFF YOUR PILE QUICK! GO WITH YOUR GUT, LAUREN!”
